From 1.8. a “crime” – in Lower Austria Gendern will soon be punished

New fuel in the gender debate: A decree by the Lower Austrian provincial government from August 1 provides for specific bans on gender-sensitive formulations in the provincial service.

Pretty best enemies. In federal politics, there is probably no duo that applies better than Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner and the Green Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler. The latter accused the most powerful ÖVP politician – as reported – of “pre-fascist statements” because Mikl-Leitner wants to put “normal thinkers” at the center of her politics. The two exchanged verbal blows almost every day – now it seems that there is new fuel for discussion and fuel. The basis for this will be the gender decree, which will be valid from August 1st in the Lower Austrian provincial service and will probably cause heated discussions in advance.Asterisks & Co. as offensesThe decree does not provide a recommendation, but concrete bans, according to which the use of gender asterisks & Co. should in future be classified as an “offence under official law”. If you use the gender colon (“Lower Austrians”) or the Binnen-I (“Lower Austrians”), you could face disciplinary proceedings or warnings.
