Some people experience real turning points in their lives. This is the case of Camilla Parker-Bowles, current wife of Prince Charles. Camilla Shand, by her maiden name, met the latter when she was only 23 years old, during a polo match which took place at Great Park in Windsor in 1970.
From the outset, the young woman began the discussion with the humor that we know: “My great-grandmother was your great-great-grandfather’s mistress. It gives us something in common.“, she would have said to him in order to attract his attention. Elizabeth II accepted the marriage of Charles and Camilla
After the death of Lady Diana, nothing then, except their possible conscience, prevented the two lovers from officially coming back together. Ten years after his death, Elizabeth II accepted their marriage, although their relationship was controversial. Indeed, Camilla Parker Bowles this marriage was frowned upon by the British because on the one hand, they saw it as a betrayal of Lady Di, and on the other, Camilla was divorced.
The newlyweds, however, overrode this scandal, and have been flowing for happy days. But when the queen has just died, a question burns everyone’s lips: will Camilla Parker-Bowles benefit from the status of queen? In effect, to the great astonishment of the British, Elizabeth II had announced the day before her platinum jubilee, that she wanted her son’s second wife to become “queen consort” when he died. And not the status of “princess consort” which was to be attributed to him following his divorce and the death of Lady Diana.
A decision that did not delight the British so much, but, as always, they respected the Queen’s choice. This was, in a way, to appease once and for all the resentment of the English people towards Camilla, before the death of Elizabeth II. The queen had indeed planned everything. She can rest in peace, after her 70 years of reign.
