From March 10th: Lidl Connect starts cable Internet tariffs

As can be read in the corresponding press release, Lidl Connect is planning to enter the world of cable Internet. The provider cites increased home office and higher quality requirements for video streaming and online gaming as reasons for the rather sudden announcement. The starting shot will be given on March 10, 2022. COMPUTER BILD summarizes the information and does a price check.

Lidl Connect: New cable Internet tariffs presented

When it comes to mobile phone tariffs, Lidl Connect cooperates with Vodafone and uses the provider’s infrastructure to implement its tariffs. It is the same with the stationary Internet and telephony offer for the home that has now been announced, as the tariff names of the same name, including the “Vodafone Red” claim, make clear. Depending on where you live and the available speed, you can use the fiber optic cable network with a maximum of 1,000 Mbps or the DSL network with up to 250 Mbps. The contract runs for 24 months, and the standard router (Vodafone station) is included free of charge for the duration. The biggest difference between the Lidl Connect and Vodafone Kabel tariffs is the price.

With a gift card: Are the cable tariffs worth it?

In the first six months, the price is reduced to 19.99 euros per month. Exception: The Vodafone Red Internet & Phone 50 Cable only costs 9.99 euros per month in the first half of the year. After that, the regular prices are due, which start at EUR 29.99 and go up to EUR 49.99 in increments of EUR 5. For comparison: The original tariffs at Vodafone are currently reduced to 0 euros in the first half of the year, only the special tariff GigaCable Max is excluded from the discount. At Lidl Connect there is a gift card on top. COMPUTER BILD has unpacked the calculator and given the savings in comparison to the respective Vodafone cable tariffs in the table.

Conclusion: The fastest tariff in particular benefits from the Lidl gift card and undercuts the price of the already quite cheap GigaCable Max by a whopping 190 euros. Even the smaller tariffs are available from Lidl Connect at a better rate than from Vodafone itself, provided you don’t mind the nice calculation (including the Lidl gift card).
