The best curlers in the world will stop in Schaffhausen at the end of March. Preparations are in full swing.

The Men’s Curling World Championships will take place in Schaffhausen from March 30th to April 7th. Preparations are in full swing – and Michael Stäuble, President of the Organizing Committee, is very satisfied with what has been achieved so far: “It’s going incredibly well. We were really overwhelmed by offers; of people who want to work as volunteers. And the tickets are going away like hot cakes.”

The goal is to have “atmospheric competitions,” which is why the entry prices are set low. “The tickets for the final weekend were sold out immediately. Things are getting tight for Thursday and Friday too.”

“Everything is going according to plan”

Schaffhausen has never hosted a major sporting event. In 2021, the Women’s Curling World Cup had to be canceled due to corona. “You can feel a jolt going through the region,” says Stäuble. “Everyone wants to be there.”

It’s not just the OK that is excited about the spectacle at the end of March. The World Curling Federation (WFC) is also looking forward to the tournament. Rhona Howie, who is responsible for logistics, raves about the work of the organizers: “They are doing a fantastic job. They have so many great volunteers. Everything is going according to plan.”

Howie, who won Olympic gold with Great Britain in Salt Lake City in 2002, expects the competition to be “exciting. For the first time, points can be collected for the Olympic Games. That’s always the ultimate goal.”
