In 2008, Electronic Arts And DICE launched Battlefield Bad Company 2, a FPS which became cult and which used a brand new game engine, Frostbite. An engine since used in other games Battlefieldbut also in the Need for Speed, Star Wars, Metal of Honor, FIFA, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Anthem, Mirror’s Edge: Catalystor even more recently in EA Sports FC 24, EA Sports UFC 5 And Dead Spacethe remake.
Today, EA Games announcement change for Frostbite. Don’t panic, the publisher is not going to abandon its game engine, on the contrary, it is here to stay and the studio announces a simple logo change. The hand is still present, but it abandons the fractured side of the previous visuals to become more pyramidal and fluid. The studio states:
After many conversations about how to represent this new chapter of Frostbite, we realized that starting from scratch was not the answer. We wanted to preserve the best of what we already were, and for us, that meant keeping Frostbite’s hand.
The handprint is intrinsically human. It represents both the human touch that brings games to life and the creative imprint left by each person who helps launch these games. The handprint is also a point of connection, keeping us in touch with our past and everyone who contributed to Frostbite – all the way back to our roots, when the engine was first introduced by DICE for Battlefield Bad Company 2 in 2008.
The last two versions of the Frostbite handprint showed the hand in a fractured or broken state. This made sense when we focused on our destructible environments in Battlefield, but with today’s change, we wanted to tell a different story – one of the collaborative relationships that transform Frostbite from the inside out.
Constructed from consecutive overlapping layers, our new handprint embodies how our teams build on each other’s strengths, going beyond what is possible when working alone. Each layer, like each element of Frostbite technology, is both an innovation and a foundation, allowing the layer above it to build a cohesive whole.
The sharp, sharp edges of the previous handprints have also been smoothed out, creating more fluid shapes. This reflects our commitment to ironing out the rough edges of Frostbite, creating a smoother experience for creators and players.
And because games are at the heart of everything we do, we’ve also created a version of the Frostbite footprint that allows us to frame these games against the many levels of effort and expertise that bring them to life .
Electronic Arts is therefore very proud of its game engine and its new logo, but for now, no future games are confirmed with Frostbite. Motive Studios develop a game Iron Manbut who will use theUnreal Engine 5 ofEpic Games and not the homemade engine. The studio released the remake of Dead Spaceavailable from €35.99 on Amazon, Cdiscount And there Fnac.
