At the end of the Valorant Champions Tour EMEA Stage 1 Challengers, FunPlus Phoenix, G2 Esports and Fnatic have qualified for the Reykjavik Masters which will take place from April 10 in Iceland. In this European qualifying tournament for Stage 1 of 2022, the Russian Gambit Esports had been banned, so the team was playing under a neutral banner with the name M3 Champions. A favorite who was therefore perhaps a little weakened, which left room for Ascendthe 2021 champion, or G2qualified via the last Closed Qualifier.
After the group stages, a new favorite was therefore emerging, Fnatic, at the top of their pool with 5 wins in as many matches ahead of G2. Opposite, in Group A, FPX tied with the M3 Champions to finish first. Acend only took a penultimate group place, not enough to qualify but close to a descent in VCT Promotion.
Finally, Fnatic’s strong run through the rest of the tree was only halted by FPX in the upper bracket final. Defeated 2-0 in this Bo3 by the men of d00mbr0s, the orange house went down to the low final, beaten again, this time by G2. The Samurai couldn’t do anything in the grand final against FunPlus, who won 3-1. Only consolation prize: the three teams therefore go to the Masters and pocket between €22,000 and €40,000 in winnings.
Almost everyone is now qualified for the first international tournament of the year. In addition to the three Europeans, there will be DRX for Korea, The Guard and OpTic for ls NA or even LOUD for Brazil.
