Will the induction cooktop of tomorrow be invisible? In any case, this is the bet of the German Gaggenau, which has just unveiled its Essential concept. The idea is to completely conceal the cooking plate by sinking the inductors into the work surface. Simply place your containers directly on the Dekton surface and manipulate the buttons placed on the side of the work area to start heating.

Essential plates are not only very discreet: they are also completely modular. Indeed, it is possible to choose the color of the worktop and the finishes. Gaggenau promises that the materials used will be treated against scratches and heat. Still in the aesthetic department, the future happy owner will have the choice between black or steel-colored knobs, to be placed in front of the hearths, or in the center of the plate, according to desires.

More technically, we can also select the location and size of the inductors. For the moment, these can reach 21 or 28 cm in diameter to adapt to all containers, from the smallest sauce boats to the most imposing stewpots. Although we do not yet know the power of the famous inductors, we do know that 12 temperature levels are provided; We have experienced finer adjustments, but this should be sufficient for daily use.

To identify the locations of the hotplates, Gaggenau has provided light indicators which will of course disappear when the plate inductors are turned off. Please note that these will also be used to provide various information on the residual heat of the cooking zones. If we stick to the manufacturer’s statements, changes in color and light intensity will be used; It will therefore probably be necessary to read the instruction manuals carefully, at least during the first cooking sessions.
For the moment, we do not know the prices of the different elements of the Gaggenau Essential plates. We will have to wait until 2024 to know the price range of this solution, which still risks damaging many bank accounts.
