Galaxy S23 with 128GB storage will be slower than other models


Not all Galaxy S23s are as fast as each other, because not all are equipped with the same type of flash memory chips. Indeed, the 128 GB version would be based on an older generation, and therefore less efficient.

Since a report unveiled the prices in France for all of the Galaxy S23s, we knew that Samsung was going to offer its Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra with 256 GB of base storage, while the smallest model, the Galaxy S23, would arrive him with a minimum of 128 GB of storage.

If this may be enough for some people who do not take many photos, we now know that we should not expect the same level of performance on this model the month expensive. Indeed, rather than using latest-generation storage, Samsung would rather have decided to opt for an older version, and therefore slower.

On Twitter, leaker Ice Universe reports that Galaxy S23 with 128GB storage will use UFS 3.1 storage, the same as the previous year’s Galaxy S22s. On their side, all other Galaxy S23 will benefit from the next generation UFS 4.0. It offers much faster speeds, but also reduced power consumption.

The UFS 4.0 standard can deliver sequential read speeds up to up to 4200MB/s, and write speeds of up to 2800MB/s. For its part, energy efficiency will be improved by 46% compared to the company’s UFS 3.1 standard, and the bandwidth will be twice that of the latter.

This choice should therefore prevent the Galaxy S23 with 128 GB of storage from being as fast as other models in daily tasks, but it will probably not be the only explanation for the performance discrepancies that may be observed. Indeed, we previously reported that despite using a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor on all versions, the Galaxy S23 will not use a cooling system as efficient as the Galaxy S23+ and S23+ Ultrawhich will likely lead to reduced power during heavy use.
