In three days, a host of information has arrived regarding the Galaxy S24. Between the officialization of a new video function and the rumors around the release date, the photo part or even the display, it’s time to take stock!
What’s new on the video side?
At the end of last week, Samsung formalized a new feature dedicated to capturing video images: Isocell Zoom Anyplace. In a clip, the South Korean brand revealed impressive video zoom technology added to a 200 Mpx Samsung Isocell sensor – possibly that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The elements provided by Samsung allow us to learn that Zoom Anyplace uses Artificial Intelligence during video capture in order to automatically zoom in on a subject, but also to follow its movements in real time.
Samsung further specifies that users can zoom in and out up to 4x magnification while maintaining 4K definition. Finally, the brand indicates that it is possible to film a wide shot and a zoomed shot at the same time.
To achieve this result, Samsung declares using the capabilities of the AI engine of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. As the Galaxy S24 Ultra should benefit from it, it’s a safe bet that all these new features are reserved for this model.
Change for the photo configuration of the Galaxy S24 Ultra
It should be noted that the leaker Revegnus recently shared lcea setup photo of Galaxy S24 Ultra recently. In a publication published this weekend on Twitter/X, it mentions:
- A new 200 Mpx HP2SX sensor (with 0.6 µm pixels);
- A 10 Mpx Sony IMX754 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom (1.12 µm);
- A 10 Mpx IMX854 telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom (0.7µm);
- A 12 Mpx IMX564 ultra wide-angle.
As mentioned in previous reports, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will say goodbye to its telephoto lens with x10 optical zoom. Faced with this development, it is very likely that Samsung has found a solution to offer similar quality thanks to the software part.
We can also note the arrival of a new laser-assisted autofocus mechanism. This change should allow the smartphone to offer better focusing in low-light and close-range situations.
Other information: Ultra HDR and release date
The famous leaker Ice Universe then ensures on Twitter/X that the Galaxy S24s will introduce Ultra HDR functionality – enabled by Android 14. Coupled with screens with a supposed maximum brightness of 2,500 nits, this new feature will allow smartphones to directly display HDR images and videos captured by the camera.
Previously, phones converted HDR content to SDR. As a result, we lost the advantages of wide dynamic range offered by HDR, i.e. better brightness, greater contrast and more vivid colors.
To close our rumors session, Ice Univese revealed information on the social network Weibo about the launch of this generation. He understands that production has already been launched for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Everything suggests that the Galaxy S24 announcement conference will take place around mid-January, a little earlier in Samsung’s calendar than previous generations. The availability of its new high-end products before the start of February therefore seems highly possible.
