Galaxy Tab S9, S9+ and S9 Ultra in comparison: This is how the Samsung tablets differ

TABLET

Samsung launches the Galaxy Tab S9 in three versions. This is how the Tab S9, Tab S9+ and Tab S9 Ultra differ.

As part of the Unpacked event on July 26, Samsung presented various hardware and software. In addition to the Galaxy Watch 6, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 and the Tab S9 were also presented. The latter is available in three variants that differ from each other in some aspects.

In addition to the basic variant, the Galaxy Tab S9, there will be a Tab S9+ and a Tab S9 Ultra, which differ in their formats.

format

The basic version measures 11 inches and is equipped with a WQXGA AMOLED display. The Tab 9+, on the other hand, measures 12.4 inches, while the Tab S9 Ultra is the largest version at 14.6 inches. Both use WQXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED displays. All models can vary in the refresh rate in the range of 60 to 120 Hertz.

As the different formats suggest, we see three very different dimensions on the Tab S9. The standard version is the most compact representative at 165.8 x 254.3 x 5.9 millimeters (mm) and 500 grams (g). The S9+ measures 185.4 x 285.4 x 5.7mm and weighs 586g and the S9 Ultra measures a whopping 208.6 x 326.4 x 5.5mm at around 737g. Any accessories such as a book cover keyboard are not included.

Performance

The tablets are equipped with the same processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Even if this will be replaced with the upcoming release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it is still an extremely powerful octa-core chipset from Qualcomm. This is supported by an Adreno 740 GPU and 8, 12 or 16 gigabytes of RAM, depending on which memory version you choose.

battery and storage space

All three models have Super Fast Charging 2.0 with up to 45 watts. However, the battery volumes to be charged differ significantly. An 8,400 mAh battery is used in the Tab S9. It is about as well equipped as the current iPad Pro. The S9+ is equipped with a 10,090 mAh battery and the S9 Ultra even has an 11,200 mAh battery.

When it comes to storage, the S9 comes with either 128GB or 256GB. There will be no 512 GB version like the Galaxy Tab S7 back then. This is reserved for the S9+ and S9 Ultra. The Ultra is available with 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 terabyte. All three models can be expanded with up to 1 terabyte of storage via microSD.

camera

The three versions are equipped with the same dual camera. They have a 13 megapixel (MP) wide angle and an 8 MP ultra wide angle camera. The front camera, on the other hand, differs significantly. Because the two smaller versions S9 and S9+ “only” offer a 12 MP ultra wide-angle camera, while the S9 Ultra is also equipped with a 12 MP wide-angle camera.

Prices and Availability

The tablets can be pre-ordered now and are expected to go on sale in August. For the conventional version of the Tab S9 you pay 899 euros for 128 gigabytes of storage space and 8 gigabytes of RAM. The Tab S9+ starts at $1,119 for 256 gigabytes of storage and 12GB of RAM. The Ultra model is logically the most expensive. There, the price starts at 1,339 euros for 256 gigabytes of storage and 12 GB of RAM.

Various retailers are currently offering discount campaigns for pre-orders:

Conclusion

If you have to choose between the three models of the Tab S9 family, you should primarily focus on the format of the corresponding tablet. Because in terms of performance, all three versions are very well “motorized”. If you want to work more mobile, you should rather use the compact standard version. On the other hand, if you want to replace a laptop and need more display area, the larger models are more worthwhile.
