Did you think that Samsung would just launch its Galaxy S24 smartphone series in January 2024? All false, since the South Korean hid a surprise mobile in its roadmap: the Galaxy XCover 7. The rugged device succeeds the XCover 6 Pro, announced in June 2022, and essentially intended for a professional audience.

The specs of the device are actually quite similar to the XCover 6 Pro. We find the same 6.6-inch LCD screen displaying a definition of 1080 x 2408 pixels, with a refresh rate nevertheless fixed at 60 Hz, while that of the XCover 6 Pro can go up to 120 Hz. relies on an entry-level MediaTek MT6835 chip (replacing the Snapdragon 778G in the XCover 6 Pro), accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, to be supplemented if necessary by a microSD card. It is also equipped with a 4050 mAh battery (charging limited to 15 W), again like the XCover 6 Pro, and a 50 megapixel back photo module. Note that the device is compatible with 5G, Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi 5.

Branded Enterprise Edition, the Galaxy XCover 7 is primarily intended for professionals. To resist the shocks it may experience, particularly outdoors, it is IP68, MIL-SDD-810H certified and benefits from Gorilla Glass Victus+ screen protection. Its weight is affected: count 240 grams for dimensions of 169 x 80.1 x 10.2 mm. Samsung also indicates that it has increased the sensitivity of the smartphone’s screen, in order to improve its responsiveness when used with gloves. On the data security side, the Know suite is included. The manufacturer also accompanies the device with a promise of Android updates for four years – it debuts under Android 14 – accompanied by five years of security patches. If Samsung does not specify the launch price of its device, the official release of which is scheduled for January 24, 2024, we can already see it at online resellers at the price of €399.

Let us add that the XCover 7 does not arrive alone: it is accompanied by a Galaxy Tab Active 5, in 8-inch format, this one benefiting from the same shock and water resistance certifications. It adds a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, support for a stylus – which has the same IP68 certification as the S Pen of the Galaxy Tab S9 – and gains support for wifi 6. To find out the launch price, you will have to wait until January 24, the date on which Samsung plans to market it.
