In addition to performance issues, other flaws seem to persist in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Players point out a lack of diversity in its bestiary, sparking disappointment and unfavorable comparisons with similar titles from Capcom. For them, destiny is uncertain and the studio must take it in hand: it’s their last hope!

Since the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2, there has been a feeling of disappointment among players regarding the diversity of enemies encountered. While they were waiting for an enriched experience in this new opus, they quickly found themselves confronted with a frustrating repetition of the same types of enemies. Although the game offers a slightly expanded bestiary compared to Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, the majority of enemies appear to be reincarnations of the previous game. This gap in variety threatens to compromise the immersive experience players were hoping to find in this new installment.

“In 3 hours, I only faced goblins”

Players’ reactions to this lack of diversity are palpable. A fan expressed his dismay on Reddit by stating: “So far I’ve been really sad with the enemy variety in this game.” His sentiment is shared by many others, who feel limited by the recurring presence of wolves and harpies as main threats. For some, the lack of a wider range of enemies reduces the game’s appeal and tips it into monotony. The gaming experience is thus marred by a persistent feeling of déjà vu, as players yearn for more varied and stimulating challenges. Furthermore, the numbers are displeasing: 28 monsters in Dragon’s Dogma 2 compared to 24 in the first! Unfortunately, with a map 3 to 4 times larger, players expected more diversity to be able to fully enjoy the universe.

The comparison with Monster Hunter

The game also suffers from unfavorable comparisons to another flagship Capcom title: Monster Hunter. Players point out with envy the astonishing diversity of enemies encountered in this title where “each mission has a new surprise”. In contrast, Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to stagnate in boring repetition, with boringly predictable encounters. The gap between the two games in terms of enemy variety amplifies the feeling of disappointment among fans. The Dragon’s Dogma community is hoping for a reaction from Capcom. Indeed, if the lack of variety already sparks complaints during the first days of play, this suggests potential difficulties in maintaining player interest in the long term. Despite an absence of DLC confirmed by the studio, updates can still correct this defect.
