A former employee of this video game studio spoke about his experience, but especially about his latest project.

If you are a fan of video games and science fiction, you probably know the Mass Effect franchise. These titles have marked the minds of fans with their careful stories, their deep characters and the important decisions that can be made. The trilogy, each game of which was released respectively in 2007, 2010 and 2012, is now considered cult throughout the world. The Canadian BioWare team has proven that they are true enthusiasts capable of creating captivating universes.

However, working for games of this scale is not always easy. It was also in a recent interview for the gaming podcast MinnMa that the former main writer of the Mass Effect series, MacWaltersspoke about his experience. More specifically, he spoke about his latest project within BioWare and his departure from BioWare to found the new studio Worlds Untold.

In this interview, Mac Walters spoke candidly about his experience at BioWare. He notably returned to his final project, and although he considered working on a new opus, he decided to devote himself to the legendary edition. : “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition came out in spring 2021, and I left the studio over the holidays of 2022. So there was a long period of time where I decompressed, unplugged, and told myself that I ‘I was a bit done with all that.’

Working in a company that develops games of this magnitude is not easy, and Mac Walters is perfectly aware of that. He actually wanted to leave BioWare early, before development of the Legendary Edition began, because he was hesitant to make “another Mass Effect”. He did not have the strength to work on such a project and preferred to leave the company to strike out on his own. However, he had gained solid experience within this studio after working on Jade Empire in 2005 then being lead screenwriter on the first Mass Effect and its two sequels, before being creative director on the Andromeda sequel. Thus, he ended his experience by being director on the remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy. Ultimately, he felt that working on the Legendary Edition was a great conclusion to his work on this legendary franchise. He therefore opted for this project rather than another Mass Effect.
