Like every year, some studios decide to stop fees for some of their games. For Electronic Arts in 2024, eight titles aren’t worth keeping online.
Electronic Arts unplugs eight games
The years go by and the world of video games welcomes new titles, again and again. Players have more choice than ever when it comes to their video gaming activities, except when it comes to playing online. In fact, publishers sometimes have to disconnect their games due to an exodus of players towards newer or more interesting software. This is for example the case of Electronic Arts: each year, the American studio closes the door on several of its titles. This year will not be an exception.
Why stop the fees?
These eight titles will therefore no longer be playable or purchasable at all on their respective dates, unless you get your hands on their physical versions. An identical destiny which takes place but not necessarily for the same reasons. Regarding F1 for example, the shutdowns of these games are probably due to license rights that have expired. Furthermore, we can also think that Formula 1 racing fans have since moved towards a more recent episode of the series.. In fact, they would then have deserted the servers of the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 editions, resulting in an unnecessary additional cost for Electronic Arts. A similar reasoning can be had for Madden NFL 20.
In the case of Rocket Arena, it’s quite different. If the game also closes for lack of players, it is not because a more recent edition of the title exists. It’s good because he didn’t succeed in attracting them to the base. However, EA’s title had an innovative concept at the crossroads of Smash Bros and a shooter. The cartoon-style title equips each player with a rocket launcher which they must use to eject their opponents from the map. A concept that fails to take hold and whose economic model will cause much ink to flow: Rocket Arena displays a formula used by free-to-play titles… even though it is initially paid for. Released on July 14, 2020, it is therefore officially four years later that the game is closing its doors.
