Game news Between Genshin Impact and Dragon Quest, Visions of Mana perhaps marks the strong return of a cult RPG series!
Visions of Mana, the latest addition to Square Enix’s cult series, is scheduled for summer 2024. After an unconvincing remake of Secret of Mana, fans of the license are eagerly awaiting this new game, the first original title for over 15 years.
Visions of Mana
First original game in the series in 15 years and first to offer a vast three-dimensional world, Visions of Mana was presented at the Game Awards 2023. It also made a surprise appearance during Microsoft’s Developers_Direct two months ago. This action-RPG puts you in the shoes of Valtalented fighter whose childhood friend was chosen as offering for the Tree of Mana, to regenerate it, as other alms do every four years. Val then offers himself as Guardian of Souls, whose goal is to protect her and accompany her during her pilgrimage.
You will explore vast areas, fight numerous monsters and gain allies throughout your journey in a rich and colorful world, populated by expressive characters and mysterious stories. The title is a perfect entry point into the Mana series and for the RPG genre. The game is planned for this summer on and for the first time on Xbox Series and PC, in addition to PS4 and PS5. The Switch is not mentioned, but it is not impossible that the game will be ported to a possible Switch 2.
At the crossroads, between Dragon Quest and Genshin Impact
Very accessible, the title is very classic, playing enormously on the nostalgia of Secret of Mana fans. With its shimmering colors, the open world and the game recalls Dragon Quest 11 in its great classicism when gameplay, whether exploration or powers, shouts its influence from Genshin Impact. Visions of Mana takes the best of the biggest names in RPG and transposes it to its universe, managing to enrich the cult saga.
The combat, while reminiscent of Final Fantasy: Rebirth, is easy to use and dynamic, bringing back iconic enemies from the series and developing interesting aerial gameplay. If it does not seem to want to revolutionize the world of RPGs, Visions of Mana is a title which will delight fans of the genre as much as aficionados of previous titles in the saga, in search of modernity or simply in search of comforting memories.
