Elden Ring’s additional content, Shadow of the Erdtree, is coming in a few weeks. So, to prepare for your return to the Entre-terre, find the most important points of its history in this JV Lore!

The title of the game

A central point of the game’s lore already amounts to fully assimilating what the famous Elden Ring is. This one is actually an amalgam of concepts such as Love, Hate and Death governing the world of the game – the Entre-terre -, concepts themselves governed by the major Runes, making up the Elden Ring. Possessing it then amounts to establishing one’s domination over all of said concepts, making its purchaser the Master of the Underworld, the Elden Lord.

Discover Elden Ring

Logically the object of all desire, he is the main objective of the player and many other characters in the story. Like the Triforce in The Legend of Zelda series, The Elden Ring is an artifact brought to this world by a goddess called “Supreme Will”, in the form of a golden star. This star was home to a beast, vassal of the goddess and living embodiment of the concept of Order, the Elden Beast, confined to the center of the Golden Tree.

After the war

The observation is quickly established as soon as the part begins since the player arrives in devastated environments. He then understands that various clashes have taken place between the regents of the various regions of the Inter-Earth, whether they are conflicts of interest or even simple family quarrels, families descended from Marika, vessel of the Elden Ring and fleshly incarnation of the Supreme Will. This controlled the Inter-earth, by dint of alliances and of wars against anyone who threatened the Golden Tree, alongside her husband, Godfrey, then first Elden Lord. Once its hegemony was established and its Golden Order established, it multiplied the relationships, from which multiple children were born, all destined to reign over the many regions of the Entre-terre.

But when the world was finally unified, jealousy contaminated some of his children, pushing one of them to kill his first son – Godwyn the Golden – with the aim of stealing the Superior Rune of Death from him. Mad with rage and sorrow, Marika then destroys the Elden Ring (scene visible in the introduction of the game), leading to the destruction of the different concepts. The various higher Runes which were linked to them then burst, their fragments falling into the hands of all his descendants, now engaged in a war of succession, aimed at making one of them the new Elden Lord. It is in this warlike context that the player character arrives, destined to find a place within this dynasty. But we can therefore ask ourselves who are these famous “no-shows” and what is their role in this world? Or why do all the demigods in the game have almost similar names? So many questions answered by our experts in our column available at the top of the page!
