Yes it is: the first trailer for the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the ErdTree has been released. A trailer that raises lots of questions. That’s good, we were able to ask Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator and director of the game and its DLC.

Elden Ring Shadow of the ErdTree: a trailer that asks a lot of questions

On June 21, 2024, Shadow of the ErdTree, the Elden Ring DLC, will be available to all players. It was through a trailer, released on February 21, that FromSoftware revealed the long-awaited date. The three-minute trailer, rich in information, must already be the subject of in-depth analysis by the community. Who is this antagonist-looking individual with red hair? Who are the two people depicted in the painting? Are we going to see old characters again?

If it therefore answers the question of the release date (probably the most important for many), the trailer raises much more. Before its broadcast, the JV editorial team was able to ask questions to Hidetaka Miyazaki: he is the director of the DLC, already in this position when Elden Ring was published. It was for more than an hour that he answered our questions, sometimes obvious, sometimes more specific. We summarize it all for you in a quick half-hour, to watch below.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director, answered our questions!

The topics covered during the interview varied. In the FAST, we return in particular to the conditions of access to Shadow of the ErdTree but also its lifespan. We discuss the new gameplay mechanics offered by the DLC as well as its temporality in relation to the base game. Obviously, we also take the opportunity to theorize: to what extent Is Miquella a key character? If Messmer “sits at the same table as the demigods, does he display any connection with them?

In relation, the interview was also an opportunity to discuss FromSoftware’s development philosophy regarding their DLCs. We now know how the idea for Shadow of the ErdTree came about, how it is considered by Miyazaki or even why Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice does not have additional content. In a few words, the interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki was an opportunity to clarify some gray areas. Obviously, we have even more questions following this interview. The boss of FromSoftware remains quite evasive, even if we feel his desire to want to say more. Probably so as not to spoil the surprise for us, since it’s all about discovering things for us.
