Achievements, these small virtual rewards, are mechanics very popular with players and are notably integrated into Steam, pushing completionists to collect them all. It just so happens that one of them unlocks by itself in a very specific title…

The Universim, a title that is already highly anticipated

The first time we heard about The Universim was in 2014 during the launch of its crowdfunding: from then on, the Crytivo studio received particular enthusiasm for its title which asks nothing more and nothing less from the player to manage an entire civilization by giving him full powers. In the jargon, we call it a “god game” and it’s a genre that has already received some big names, like Populous by a certain Peter Molyneux.

One of the particularities of the project is in particular to propose a spherical playing field, representing the planet in its entirety and to see the influence of its civilization there. Over the years of development and a growing budget, the developers were able to broaden their ambitions by working hard on the random generation of terrain, which was particularly rich and complex. Because yes, once our civilization, starting from nothing, will have discovered the possibility of flying to other skies, the conquest of space and other planets will then be possible and The Universim must then surprise its community with vast and new worlds to explore.

In short, a large-scale project, available on Steam since 2018 in early access: the launch of version 1.0 is therefore scheduled for January 22, 2024, i.e. in just a few days. And obviously, some players already have some… strange surprises.

When success comes by itself

Particularly available on Steam, several players are realizing an unusual phenomenon: an achievement in the game is unlocked and appears in their statistics, even though they have never launched The Universim. The challenge is called “Genesis” and requires you to establish your very first civilization in the game, one of the first achievements to unlock. This mysterious unlocking was noted by several Internet users, all claiming to have never launched a single game.

For some, this would be due to an anti-piracy measure while others consider it to be a pure bug. ; Still others point to the success condition of the achievement (0/0 instead of 0/1), which would then push Steam to believe it has already accomplished everything necessary to unlock the achievement.

Crytivo has not yet commented on the subject, the studio must already be busy in this fateful period when, in a few weeks, they will finally release their baby after an entire decade of gestation. If you wish it, you can therefore pre-order The Universim at the price on Steam at this address. The game is also available on Mac and Linux.
