The PlayStation 5 Pro seems to be a real open secret within the video game industry: the leaks are intensifying, leaving almost no room for doubt. The latest leaks suggest that the machine would be capable of great technical feats.

A real power monster?

When we know Sony’s plan for its home consoles, accustomed to first offering a Slim model (since the PS1!) then a Pro version (since the PS4 era), the existence of a PS5 Pro is almost a certainty even if it has no official character. However, the leaks are accumulating and many sources agree to point out the same characteristics, like the insider Moor’s Law is Dead, corroborated by Insider Gaming.

In a dedicated article, this latter media (run by Tom Henderson, far from being unknown in the video game sphere) affirms that the PS5 Pro will therefore be the most powerful home console ever produced by Sony: in truth, we do not expected no less and if the CPU will be the same, a High CPU Frequency Mode feature would accelerate the calculation speed by around 10%. Above all, it’s the GPU (which concerns graphic effects) which would be rethought judiciously.

In fact, this would significantly improve graphics including ray-tracing, resulting in 45% higher power than the standard PS5. A PS6 before its time? Maybe.

An equivalent of Nvidia’s DLSS

Above all, the feature that catches the most attention is inspired by Nvidia’s famous DLSS: here, the technology would be called PSSR (for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) and would allow neither more nor less to play in 4K at 120 frames per second, or in 8K at 60 frames per second. Just that !

For the curious, like DLSS, PSSR would rely on an artificial intelligence capable of reconstituting pixels and adding new ones: in this way, it is then possible to artificially upscale the definition of the image, but also to increase the framerate while benefiting from high graphic effects. At Nvidia, the technology is already doing wonders and it would be a real “game changer” for many players.

Finally, this PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, would be released at the end of this year. We will obviously wait for real communication from Sony in order to get excited for good.
