When a cult license returns to the forefront, it inevitably makes noise. Rumors of a potential sequel to this renowned saga are making players impatient.

A few days ago, an investigation by the GDC published by VGC magazine revealed that nearly 8% of developers surveyed are working on the next generation of Switch. And while this said console has not yet been officially announced, rumors are circulating about the appearance of a brand new game, playable on the “Switch2”. To the delight of fans of early shooters, this is the sequel to one of the best-known sagas of the genre: Star Fox.

A license that waits wisely

Released in 1993, Starwing, or Starfox in its original version, is a reference in shooting games. Bringing 3D graphics to the Super Nintendo for the first time, this title brings the Star Fox team into video game history. In the years that followed, numerous sequels were released, constantly decreasing in quality, and since 2016, nothing. So when rumors of a sequel on a potential new console suddenly appear, we have to listen.

A tempting rumor

There are several people who relay this noise from the corridor. First and foremost, Dylan Cuthbert, the original programmer of Star Fox first of the name. According to him, Nintendo will soon bring the license back to life, 7 years after the release of Star Fox Zero which failed to find its audience. Then there was the rumor, now denied, that the studio in charge of the future Metroid Prime would be working on the subject. Finally, the leaker Zippo also claimed that a new game Star Fox would be in development and would arrive in 2024. Of course, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, but Zippo is known to be right almost all the time. According to him, this sequel has a good chance of appearing on the future Nintendo console. To support his words, the leaker shows that references to Star Fox are hidden in the source code of Nintendo Switch Sports. For now, nothing is certain, but expect to hear about Star Fox these coming months.
