While the long-awaited Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is finally available to everyone, it seems that not all physical versions of the game are in the same boat. Indeed, the Japanese version has a slightly funny little feature which risks raising its price in a few years…

A great game in every sense of the word

Considered the most anticipated game of the year and awarded as such at the Game Awards 2023Following Final Fantasy VII Remake is now available to players around the world. In Final Fantasy VII Rebirththe eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE continues its quest to protect the planet outside of Midgar, the metal theater from the first opus. Now free to travel the different regions of Gaia in search of Sephiroththe main antagonist of the game, Cloud and his gang are not at the end of their troubles. With new enemies to defeat, new bosses, and secrets about to be revealed, FF7 Rebirth has no shortage of twists and turns – or things to do.

Indeed, the game is so substantial, both in terms of its astronomical lifespan and the size of its files, that the developers at Square Enix saw fit to split the data across two disks. This was also the case for FF7 Remake when it was released on PlayStation 4but the first part ended up fitting on a single disc when it was launched on PlayStation 5even with the addition of the DLC FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. But even the PS5 is no match for the 145 GB And 100 and some hours of play of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and the two discs are required to do justice to the latest addition to the Final Fantasy saga. But they still need to be labeled correctly…

A little dumpling that will make people happy

It’s one thing for a game to require two discs to install, but it’s another thing for the discs to be reversed. And yet, this is what happened in Japan, where physical versions of FF7 Rebirth suffered from a small printing problem. Normally, when a title has two discs, the Data Disc serves to download the data necessary for the operation of the game, while the Play Disc is used to launch the game once installation is complete. Unfortunately, the labels affixed to the Blu-Rays of the Japanese edition of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth were reversed, which surprised more than one Japanese on February 29, 2024.

In itself, this little problem is not very serious since it will not prevent anyone from playing, and it will not affect your game since it only concerns the Japanese version. But it is rather amusing to imagine the general confusion this must have caused, especially since Square Enix was forced to publish a press release to explain this little thing. There is still a positive point to all this: the error having been noticed quite early in production, it will surely only concern the first printing of the game, which will make this version all the more rare in the years to come. come. This clumsiness could therefore make a collector happy in a few years!
