Months pass, but the Nintendo Switch seems absolutely unstoppable. While a new version is on the horizon (if all the rumors are to be believed), the smart one will be the one who can shake up the Nintendo empire.

The Switch phenomenon continues

If there is one thing that cannot be taken away from Nintendo, it is its ability to renew its vision of the console world with simple things. We would have liked the late Satoru Iwata, late president of the Japanese firm, to benefit from this stratospheric success. Hit by the failure of the Wii U, the company had a lot to do to restore confidence in its community of players, but they managed to retain their philosophy of “lateral thinking of obsolete technologies” (inherited from the emblematic Gunpei Yokoi) to deploy a small treasure of ingenuity. As it stands, the Switch is a reinterpretation of the Wii U, but without the latter’s faults and its absolutely colossal success is not about to stop. Latest example with Japan!

While the Nintendo Switch is in third place among the best-selling consoles of all time, we have just learned that it has just exceeded… 130 million machines sold. There is still a little room to reach the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation (they are neck and neck with 155 million and a head start for the Sony machine), but it is not impossible – even if it will be complicated with the arrival of a next machine – that a new record is reached. And speaking of records, the Nintendo Switch has become the console hosting the most games over a year! The information, given by Anthony Silva from the Circana agency, reports… 2,360 titles released in 2023 on Nintendo Switch. It’s gigantic! Even if Steam remains well above the fray for all platforms with 14,000 games released in one year, it’s still quite a record for a console! In general, as time passes, the excitement dies down and the games tend to diminish. Quite the opposite of a Nintendo Switch with remarkable dynamics. In these conditions, is there really a need for a Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2, reality or illusion?

The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017 and will reach its seventh year of existence in 2024. In the life cycle of a console, this is quite considerable and it is not insignificant that rumors concerning a new machine emerge on the web. But as it stands, and unless you are visionary, it is difficult to see what levers Nintendo will be able to pull to surpass its current machine. The Kyoto company has never been in the technology race and the hybrid aspect of the Nintendo Switch suits its historical philosophy perfectly. It will therefore be very interesting to discover what innovations this hypothetical machine (even if we suspect that Nintendo has been working on it for a long time) will bring to a console which is already very complete. As this new year begins and the Nintendo Switch continues to be a hit, we want to ask you the question: what do you expect from a Nintendo Switch 2? New gameplay features? A technique on par with the most modern 3D engines? Something else ? Your keyboards !
