We all know that sometimes an update can bring errors while trying to fix bugs. But in Minecraft, it can completely delete your worlds. So be careful!

Goodbye old world

Minecraft players on PC would have done without this news: an update published by Mojang causes major problems that can go as far as deleting saved worlds! It is the developer himself who is sounding the alarm via a message posted on X/Twitter by the Mojang Status account. “Do not update Minecraft through the Xbox app on PC,” warns Mojang. “If you do, you risk losing your worlds” he adds.

Unfortunately, reading the comments on the Web, the damage has already been done for certain users who have seen their levels simply deleted. What to do to avoid this? The studio recommends downloading a separate tool in order to retrieve the update via this process rather than via the Xbox application. “Download and run the Gaming Services Repair Tool in the Xbox app for PC before installing the latest Minecraft update and update Gaming Services to version 19.87.13001.0, which will avoid the issue” warns Mojang, inviting players to go to this address. If you play Minecraft on PC, you know what you have to do.

At the time of writing, the bug has still not been fixed, forcing Mojang to stop deploying the update. “We continue to investigate issues with worlds being lost and have blocked Windows Update to prevent worlds from being lost”. The problem is that without this update, some features of Minecraft don’t work as they should. “If you have not received the update, some online services may be unavailable, including crossplatform multiplayer” apologizes the studio.

For their part, users have difficulty accepting this misstep coming from Mojang. “How could you allow this bug to reach a live version of the game?! this is why minecraft preview exists” says a player indignantly. “I bet Microsoft and Mojang saved a huge amount of money by not properly testing this update” reads another comment. What is a shame is that the official X/Twitter account of the game does not mention this problem which can nevertheless ruin hours of work.
