There are games whose beauty is almost witchcraft. This was already the case for this PS5 exclusive when it was released on the Sony console, and now it should soon arrive on PC. Future on the horizon?

An already magnificent game on PS5

While many games tend to disappoint between the videos revealed during development and the results displayed in-game, others are so visually successful that we still wonder how such a feat could have been possible. If you have played Horizon: Forbidden West on PlayStation 5, you probably asked yourself this question when discovering the rest of Aloy’s adventures. It must be said that its open world is simply stunning, and that the game even manages to maintain a perfectly stable framerate on the Sony console. These exploits earned it the title of “Game with the best graphics of 2022” according to our colleagues at Digital Foundry who then said:

The world is so detailed (…) they have magnificently pushed the rendering on PS5 of the particle effects and the display distance (…) (Compared to its predecessor) the lighting is so improved. It’s really pleasing, visually speaking. There’s this nuance of lighting that you didn’t find in the original game (…) – John Linneman, journalist and video producer for Digital Foundry.

Since its release, Horizon Forbidden West has also benefited from a DLC called Burning Shores. The latter offered players to extend the experience and offer a new story taking place after the events of the original game. Aloy then found herself in a completely new region corresponding to Los Angeles, in a version more resembling a Pacific island between volcanoes and turquoise water.

A slap on the horizon on PC?

On the occasion of CES 2024 taking place right now, Horizon Forbidden West returned to the forefront to give some news about its PC version. The latter had already been announced some time ago for a release at the beginning of 2024, without ever really showing itself further. During a conference organized by NVidiathe former Sony exclusive was able to show some images of its PC version, and suffice to say that it could be even more beautiful.

Still planned for the beginning of 2024 (and still without a more precise date), the full version of Horizon Forbidden West planned for PC should include the base game as well as its Burning Shore expansion, and will integrate some elements which may make the game even more beautiful than on PS5. In the video that you can see in our automatic player at the top of the article, we discover for example that the PC version should benefit from the RTX technology boosted to the maximum thanks to NVidia’s DLSS 3. THE DLAA should also be there to improve the quality of the image, and the famous NVidia Reflex should allow you to shoot more accurately than ever thanks to reduced latency. Finally note that this port is in the hands of the studio Nixxeswhich had already ported other PlayStation exclusives to PC like Marvel’s Spider-Manits spin-off Miles Morales or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
