Palworld is breaking everything on the Internet. In 5 days, it sold 7 million copies. The game is often compared to Pokémon for its strong resemblance in the design of its creatures. It didn’t take much for a player to develop a mod that merges the two universes.

Palworld, more than 7 million copies in 5 days on the market. It is also the second title with the most simultaneous players on Steam. with 1.85 million people surpassing Counter-Strike 2 (1.81 million). The app is, however, under the wind of controversy due to accusations of Pokémon plagiarism. The reason ? The Pal (animals that populate the universe) would be much too similar to Nintendo’s creatures. Necessarily, what had to happen happened, a player ended up creating a mod to integrate the Nintendo universe into Palworld.

It was the Internet user ToastedShoes who shared the announcement on his X account (ex Twitter) on January 23, 2024. “ Palworld already has a Pokemon mod, the full video will arrive tomorrow on my YouTube channel! » he rejoiced. In the extract available on the social network, for example we could see Pikachu mining or a boss fight with Jessie from Team Rocket who rides an Electek.

A Pokémon mod and an almost instant reaction from Nintendo

Faced with this mod, the reaction of players was instantaneous. “ It’s the best thing I’ve ever laid eyes on » declared a first Internet user. “ I hope it gets out to as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Good luck to the creators against Nintendo » worried a second. And it’s an understatement to say it, because barely 24 hours online, the video was skipped for copyright. This is therefore the Pokémon Company’s first reaction to Palworld. Indeed, Prior to this reaction, the main distributor of Pokémon games had stated that they were aware of the new title, but had refused to comment on Bloomberg. Remember that this is not the first time that the company has attacked fans for their work. For example, the company attacked a team that had developed a PC port for Super Mario 64.

I’ve gotten a lot of people asking where they can get the mod etc. We want to distribute it for free to everyone, but due to Nintendo sending a DMCA on the last tweet, we want to proceed with caution for now » indicated the modder regarding the situation. That didn’t stop him from laughing about it either with several posts still on X. “ I just saw a white van go back and forth 3 times on my street. I feel like Nintendo is getting closer to me » he quipped, for example.
