In a note posted on December 31, the American author was delighted with the quality of recent animated series, in particular the excellent Blue Eye Samuraiavailable on Netflix.

Martin took the opportunity to take stock of the spin-offs of Game Of Thrones in preparation for : “It turns out that HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of Game of Thrones.”.

“None of them have been given the green light yet, but I think we are about to take the next step with a few of them”he continues. “When we started developing them a few years ago, we had four ideas for animated series, to which great talents were attached. […] But, alas, two of the original projects were subsequently shelved.”.

If he does not specify the nature of the two animated projects still in development, we know that one of them is centered on the Golden Empire of Yi Ti, a territory located in the Far East, in the far east of ‘Essos. Due to its distance from Westeros, this region inspired by Imperial China is considered almost mythical.

The second animated series in gestation would be “a dark and serious drama” with a tone similar to that of Game Of Throneswithout however knowing more.

George RR Martin also took the opportunity to announce that the live-action series project entitled The Sea Snake was eventually developed into animation. Created by Bruno Heller (Rome, Gotham), series The Sea Snake follows the character of Corlys Velaryon through his journeys at sea.

“We moved our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Serpent from live action to animation. […] Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live action version prohibitive, with half the show taking place at sea and with the need to create a different port each week. […] So we now have three animated projects in progress.”.
