  • “Game of Thrones” ended after 8 seasons and only a few of the main characters survived the whole series.
  • A sequel series is now to be created about the banished Jon Snow that would continue the GOT story.
  • Lead actor Kit Harington is said to be ready to return to Westeros.

“Game of Thrones” was a sensational success for the pay-TV broadcaster HBO, which ended after eight seasons. Fans weren’t happy with the show’s conclusion and the show’s reputation has suffered greatly over the past two seasons, but HBO hopes to continue the success story with new GOT productions.

The next “Game of Thrones” series, “House of the Dragon”, starts in August on HBO and in Germany on Sky, it’s about the house of Targaryen, long before the events of the original series. Further GOT series are being planned, including the first direct sequel to “Game of Thrones”.

A series about Jon Snow (Jon Schnee in the German version) is in an early stage of development. Kit Harington is set to reprise the role he has played on Game of Thrones for eight seasons. In the series finale, Jon was banished from Westeros and subsequently moved north with the wildlings.

That’s where the new series would start and would have the opportunity to bring back other characters from “Game of Thrones”, such as Arya, Sansa, Tyrion or Brienne. It’s a little surprising that Harington is interested in returning to the world of ‘Game of Thrones,’ given that he’s been open about the pressure and self-doubt the HBO hit has caused him.

The Jon Snow series is currently in an early phase of development, so it is not yet certain whether filming will ever begin or whether the project will be scrapped again after just a few months. So the only sure GOT production remains “House of the Dragon” for the time being.
