The final seasons of “Game of Thrones” disappointed this actor who was present in all seasons of the series and whom the public adored.
SPOILERS – The following reveals key elements of “Game of Thrones”, refrain from reading if you want to keep the surprises of the series intact.
If there is one subject that will divide Game of Thrones fans for a long time to come, it is its finale. And more generally, the two seasons that creators David Benioff and DB Weiss had to write on their own, compensating for the absence of novels from the Iron Throne of George RR Martin to give them directions.
These seasons left a bitter taste for actor Conleth Hill, who played the mysterious Varys, and who laments the fate reserved for his character.
Varys is one of Game of Thrones’ most elusive characters. Nicknamed the “Master of Whisperers”, he is the king of espionage. He knows everything about everyone, and aims for the people to be led as well as possible.
He has a strong rivalry with Littlefinger, aka Petyr Baelish (played by Aidan Gillen), and here’s what his interpreter thought of seasons 7 and 8 (via the Times):
HBO Varys and Tyrion Lannister
I was just frustrated with the last two [saisons] for Varys was no longer the know-it-all character he had always been. I think the writers wanted to finish the show one way and the HBO studio another. I found the ultimate [saison] was a bit too fast. I was inconsolable, but now I got used to it.
Over time, some actors have expressed disappointment about the end of the show. Maisie Williams (Arya) regretted the absence of a scene to which she was attached, where Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys, had pointed out that the fate of certain characters left something to be desired. And it’s also Conleth Hill’s review about Varys:
“I was really disappointed not to have a final scene with [Littlefinger]. I was disappointed not to be able to react to his death, if he was my nemesis. That’s what I felt in the last two seasons: my character became more peripheral, they focused on others.
Which is normal is the very nature of a collegiate series, but it was a little frustrating. All in all, it was completely positive and brilliant, but the last two seasons weren’t my favourites.”

Whether they were disappointed or not, Game of Thrones fans can rediscover the universe they love with House of the Dragon, whose season 1 was one of the great successes of the start of the 2022 school year, and another spin-off, this time dedicated to Jon Snow, was in development, before the strike of Hollywood actors and screenwriters put its preparation on forced pause.
