After a two-year hiatus from the pandemic, one of the biggest events on the gaming calendar returns. Gamescom will take place both online and offline this year, but without Nintendo at all.

Gamescom 2022 will take place without Nintendo

From the 24th to 28th August 2022 the Cologne exhibition center is once again the home of Gamescom. After two years of COVID-related interruption, trade visitors and fans are to come together again in the course of the event. However, the trade fair has to do without one of the really big ones, because Nintendo will not be present at Gamescom this year. The company behind game series such as The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and of course the popular Nintendo Switch console announced at the request of GamesWirtschaft:

Gamescom is a central event in the event calendar for Nintendo. This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against participating in Cologne. (Source: GamesWirtschaft).

Gamescom loses another major publisher. So far, among other things, also Rockstar Games (GTA, Red Dead Redemption) and 2K (BioShock, Borderlands) canceled. Among the trade fair participants who have been confirmed so far are Bandai Namco (Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077), Cook Media (Saints Row, Metro) and THQ Nordic (Darksiders, Outcast).

Nintendo is still planning events in Germany

In general, however, Nintendo does not seem to be averse to events in Germany. The company is currently planning to participate in the Main Matsuri Japan Festival in Frankfurt am Main (August 12-14, 2022) and the AnimagiC in Mannheim (August 5-7, 2022). Other events are also being planned. (Source: GamesWirtschaft).

For a long time, the publisher has refrained from events such as E3 or the Summer Games Fest taking place on June 9, 2022 and is revealing the announcements for its in-house format “Nintendo Direct”. There is currently no official announcement for a new presentation.
