Kick-off for Gamescom: At the Opening Night Live there was a lot of material on new games to see. Here are some of the highlights.

Gamescom is back! After the largest video game trade fair in the world had taken place purely digitally in recent years due to the corona pandemic, thousands of people will storm the halls in Cologne again in the coming days. At the annual opening show, Opening Night Live, the developers and publishers presented more than 30 upcoming video games on the evening of August 23rd. Those are the highlights.

“Hogwart’s Legacy”

As trainees at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, gamers experience their own story in the world of “Harry Potter” and learn powerful spells. But that takes time and that’s how the role-playing game appears “Hogwart’s Legacy” according to the current status only on February 10, 2023. There is also another downer: There will be no reunion with Harry, Hermione or Ron, since the whole thing takes place before the events of JK Rowling (57) series. Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

“Dune: Awakening”

The desert planet of Arrakis seems made for an open-world survival multiplayer adventure. As the title suggests, is “Dune: Awakening” inspired by Frank Herbert’s (1920-1986) classic sci-fi cycle “Dune”. According to a press release, Denis Villeneuve’s (54) blockbuster of the same name from 2021 also provides further inspiration. At the same time, however, they also want to break new ground. There is no release date for the survival MMO yet. Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

“The Callisto Protocol”

From December 2nd, players will be in “The Callisto Protocol” into a dark sci-fi nightmare. The new game from Glen Schofield, the creator of “Dead Space”, takes place in the year 2320. Gamers try to escape from a maximum security prison on the Jupiter moon Callisto. The protagonist is played by Josh Duhamel (49) and Karen Fukuhara (30) from “The Boys” also has a role. Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

“New Tales from the Borderlands”

Already on October 21st we are going back to the Borderlands. Adventure “New Tales from the Borderlands” tells the story of a “trio of losers having a shitty day” with the charm typical of the franchise. As in its predecessor, in this spin-off, players make choices to advance the story. So there is no shooting like in the shooters of the main series. Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

“Read of P”

An unusual twist on a classic awaits fans in 2023 “Read of P”. The action role-playing game tells the story of the android Pinocchio, who is looking for “Mr. Geppetto” and doesn’t want to be stopped by all sorts of adversaries. “You must always lie to others if you hope to become human,” reads the upcoming game’s homepage. Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Gotham Knights

After Batman’s death, Batgirl, Red Hood, Robin and Nightwing try to restore order in Gotham City. They meet in the action role-playing game Gotham Knights well-known villains from the universe of the Caped Crusaders. Also joining the cast are Clayface, Mr. Freeze and iconic villain Harley Quinn. The game is scheduled to be released on October 21st. Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

DualSense Edge wireless controller

Sony also presented at Opening Night Live its new DualSense Edge wireless controller for the PlayStation 5. This offers, among other things, numerous customization options. For example, keys can be assigned individually or the sensitivity of the stick can be adjusted. The settings can then also be saved in profiles. For example, users can set up different allocations for several games. It is not yet known when the controller will appear.
