Gamescom 2023 is behind us. What the manufacturers announced at the world’s largest games fair.

With more than 320,000 visitors, Gamescom underlines its role as the world’s most important trade fair for video games. As every year, developers and studios announced their upcoming highlights in Cologne from last Wednesday to yesterday Sunday. This year there was a lot that we can look forward to in the coming weeks and months. These innovations are coming soon.

Hype about “Starfield”

Several trailers shown for the first time at Gamescom make us look forward to a hot autumn of games. This includes what has been eagerly awaited for years “Starfield” by Bethesda, whose PR machine has been running at full speed in recent weeks. The space game will be released on September 6th, and anyone who treats themselves to the Premium Edition can immerse themselves in the endless expanses of space from September 1st.

“Cyberpunk 2077” will soon be version 2.0

CD Project Red has announced the biggest update to date for “Cyberpunk 2077” for September 26th. The game, which has been a prime example of excessive hype and a chaotic release since its launch in December 2020, has been greatly improved by the Polish developer studio and appeased many players. With the free update “Phantom Liberty” CDPR is now turning the game almost upside down: Among other things, fresh content, a revised skill system and a more competent police AI have been announced.

More highlights

Many fans are also looking forward to the remake of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3”. The game will be released on November 10th this year, in Gamescom trailer gameplay sequences can now also be seen for the first time. There is one in twelve in “Tekken 8”. Bandai Namco has im Gamescom trailer finally revealed the official release date: January 26, 2024 is the day. Also at the show were trailers for Diablo 4: Season of Blood (released October 17), Assassin’s Creed Mirage (October 5), Alan Wake 2 (October 17) and Little Nightmares 3. (2024) to see.

“Zelda” clears up at the award ceremony, Habeck presents economic development

In addition, games in all common categories were awarded at Gamescom. Now that the E3 in Los Angeles no longer exists, the awards presented in Cologne have an even greater significance than before. The big winner here is called “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”. The Nintendo game won in four out of 17 categories, including best soundtrack and best gameplay.

However, the jurors saw the greatest entertainment value in “Payday 3” from Starbreeze Studios, which will be released on September 21 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and S and the PC. “Mortal Kombat 1” was chosen as the best Xbox game and “Tekken 8” as the best Playstation game.

By the way, there was also something to win nationally: Already on Thursday, Economics Minister Robert Habeck (53) presented the German studio BlueByte a check for around 5.5 million euros – to support the games location Germany. In the future there should therefore be more funding and the importance of video games as an economic factor should be recognized, emphasized the minister.
