Ganryu 2 is the sequel to a 1999 Neo-Geo game

It was in March 2021 that PixelHeart announced that it had acquired the catalog of Visco Corporation, a studio born in the 80s best known for its arcade and Neo-Geo games. Among them, Ganryu, an action-platform game released in 1999 on the Neo-Geo MVS terminal and ported many years later by JoshProd to Neo-Geo AES and Dreamcast.

Today, hand in hand with the Storybird Games studio, great specialists in pretty pixels, PixelHeart announces the release of a sequel called Ganryu 2: Hakuma Kojiro, which will be available on April 22, 2022 on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and pc. A blow that HeartPixel had already done to us by announcing a sequel to the shoot’em up Andro Dunos, when seizing the catalog of Visco Corporation.

Freely inspired by the story of Miyamoto Musashi, but above all by classics like Shinobi 3 and Shadow Dancer, the game invites us to embody the legendary Japanese swordsman on a journey starting in the province of Hokkaido in the North and for destination final the island of Ganryu-jima in the South, where everything started between Musashi and his rival Kojiro Sasaki. The opportunity to discover a fanciful Japan through its 4 seasons, but above all to chain rushes, double jumps, wall jumps and kunais throwing, without forgetting to call on the kami to trigger special abilities.

For fans, it is also on April 22 that Just For Games will distribute the boxed game on PlayStation 4 and Switch at a price of 25 euros. Collectors will also have the opportunity to get their hands on a limited edition, with a different dust jacket, a certificate of authenticity, a numbered sticker as well as a bonus which we are told will be revealed soon.
