Garmin launches a connected watch designed for health, sport and… napping

The new Garmin Venu 3 is the manufacturer’s first connected watch to track wheelchair sports, but also to offer a sleep coach.

This has been expected for a few days after the leaks last week. Garmin finally presented, this Wednesday, its new connected watches oriented towards fitness and health: the Garmin Venu 3.

Like the Garmin Venu 2 from two years ago, it is a sporty connected watch, but with an Oled screen and not a transflective MIP. It must be said that the watch is intended above all for indoor use, for the gym or fitness sessions.

Two watches for two formats

Concretely, the watch is available in two formats with the Garmin Venu 3 and the small Garmin Venu 3S. Logically, the characteristics will be slightly different depending on the model:

  • Garmin Venu 3: 45 mm, 1.4 inch screen, 454 x 454 pixels, 324 pixels per inch, up to 14 days of battery life (11 hours in multi-GNSS tracking with music)
  • Garmin Venu 3S: 41 mm, 1.2 inch screen, 390 x 390 pixels, 325 pixels per inch, up to 10 days of battery life (8 hours in multi-GNSS tracking with music)

Contrary to what we might have thought with previous leaks, the Garmin Venu 3 is ultimately not inspired by the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. If the bezel integrated into the case is different on the large model, it is however not rotating and therefore does not allow navigation in the interface. It will therefore be necessary to be satisfied with the touch screen or navigation with the three buttons present on the edge.

Unlike the Forerunner, Epix or Fenix models, which are dedicated specifically to outdoor activities, the Garmin Venu 3 does not offer multiband GPS tracking, but only multi-GNSS tracking compatible with GPS, Glonass and Galileo. On the other hand, it does embed Garmin’s latest generation heart rate sensor, the Elevate Gen 5, inaugurated with the Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 and Fenix 7 Pro.

Advanced functions for recovery

Above all, the Garmin Venu 3 incorporates several features from more sporty models such as monitoring the “body battery” – which will evaluate your energy reserve as the day progresses – measuring heart rate variability and morning reports.

The watch also introduces certain features that are still new to Garmin, such as a dedicated mode for people in wheelchairs which will not count the number of steps taken, but of pushes, and offer suitable monitoring of activities.

The Garmin Venu 3 is also the first Garmin watch to offer a sleep coach that is not limited to the score, but includes advice. The watch can also measure your rest time during naps, a function that was not previously supported by Garmin.

Finally, note that the Garmin Venu 3 can also allow you to make voice calls thanks to an integrated microphone and speaker. On the other hand, unlike the Venu 2 Plus, it does not offer electrocardiogram measurement.

The Garmin Venu 3 and Venu 3S are both available this Wednesday at a price of 499.99 euros.
