The tragic death of Gaspard Ulliel
Gaspard Ulliel had gone to Savoy with his ex-girlfriend Gaëlle Pietri, from whom he had separated discreetly in 2020 and their 6-year-old son Orso. But, on Wednesday January 18, 2022, while skiing at the Rosière area, he collided with another skier at the crossroads of two blue slopes. Following the shock, he suffered a serious head trauma and was quickly transported to intensive care at the Grenoble-Alpes University Hospital. But when he arrives, he is already brain dead. He died the following day, January 19, 2022.
Following this accident, an investigation was opened to find the causes of death. “The skier involved in the collision has been heard, as well as two witnesses to the scene”had then revealed Anne Gaches, the public prosecutor of Albertville, before indicating: “According to these first testimonies and the observations made on the spot, the two skiers were moving side by side and collided”. She further added : “It is difficult to say whether it was the shock or the fall that led to the death of M.Ulliel. This accident is very sad but the circumstances are quite simple, there is no particular complexity. In view of the first elements, there was no excessive speed, inappropriate behavior or fault of one of the two skiers”. However, the skier had a helmet on while the actor did not. A question then remains unanswered: could Gaspard Ulliel’s life have been saved if he had worn a helmet?

The many tributes to Gaspard Ulliel
On the evening of January 19, Emmanuel Macron pays an official tribute to the actor. Then follows a series of poignant tributes in his honor. A long standing ovation is given in his memory January 20, 2022 at the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Festival. Then, on January 25, 2022, the Chanel house pays tribute to him during the Fashion Week parade. The last model paraded holding a bouquet of camellias tinted in midnight blue, reminiscent of Bleu de Chanel, a perfume for which Gaspard Ulliel was the muse for 12 years.
On January 27, 2022, many personalities from the world of cinema attend the funeral. There is in particular Catherine Deneuve, Nathalie Baye, Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Anna Mouglalis, Damien Bonnard, Niels Schneider Audrey Tautou, Alice Taglioni, Vincent Cassel or even Isabelle Huppert. It was during a ceremony full of emotions in the Saint-Eustache church in Paris that they bid farewell to the movie star. A ceremony during which many do not hold back their tears and in particular the actress Vicky Krieps with whom he had played shortly before. Another tribute is then paid to him at the opening of the 47th Cesar ceremony.
