Gauges, telework, outdoor mask: restrictions lifted in France on February 2

This is the first step, this February 2, 2022, of the easing of covid restrictions.

The wave caused by the Omicron variant, which is more contagious, is far from over. But the government is sticking to the schedule that Prime Minister Jean Castex announced during a press conference on January 20, 2022.

The easing of the measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus is being done in two stages: the first takes place this Wednesday February 2 when the second should take place on February 16 next – in two weeks. Here’s what’s changing today.

Telework

Telework was previously imposed for 3 days a week, or even 4 days for companies where it was possible. From February 2, this requirement is lifted. Nevertheless, the use of telework remains a recommendation.

Remember that in the presence of more people in offices, certain measures are essential for everyone’s safety: regular ventilation, wearing a mask, distancing, avoiding eating together at lunchtime.

Wearing a mask outdoors

The obligation to wearing a mask outdoors, in areas where it was required in recent weeks, is generally lifted. However, the mask remains compulsory in closed public places – where it is absolutely necessary.

Gauges

The date of February 2, 2022 marks the end of gauges in all sports and cultural facilities that accommodate a seated public. There will no longer be a limit to the number of people who can be accommodated, for example among spectators in a stadium. The wearing of the mask is however maintained, and the reception of the public standing remains not authorized.

The next stage of February 16

As of February 16, other restrictions will be lifted. Nightclubs should reopen, and standing concerts should be allowed again. Consumption in stadiums, cinemas, transport should also be allowed again.

A reduction in the health protocol in schools is envisaged after the school holidays, subject to confirmation.

The vaccination pass

Nothing changes today for the vaccination pass, which remains compulsory for access to most places open to the public – cultural establishments (theatres, museums, cinemas, etc.), restaurants and bars, public transport.
