GE: will supply iodine to a Chilean company


(CercleFinance.com) – The Pharmaceutical Diagnostics division of GE Healthcare announces that it has entered into a long-term agreement with the Chilean mining company Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile (SQM), in order to guarantee its supply of iodine.

This agreement will allow SQM to increase its supply of iodine and is part of GE Healthcare’s commitment and investment plan to enable the production of an additional 30 million doses of iodinated contrast media per year. by 2025.

“We expect global demand for iodinated contrast media to double over the next ten years,” said Kevin O’Neill, Managing Director of GE Healthcare Pharmaceutical Diagnostics.

Pablo Altimiras, Executive Vice President of Iodine and Nitrates at SQM, adds: ‘We will continue to improve quality and increase capacity to ensure reliability of supply, which is essential for so many sectors, including including health care. ‘
