George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Kerry Washington and other stars want to found a special school for underprivileged youth.

George Clooney (60), Don Cheadle (56), Kerry Washington (44) and other stars have set themselves an ambitious goal: Underprivileged young people should find their way into the film and entertainment industry more easily, which should ensure more diversity. The US celebrities, including Grant Heslov (58), Mindy Kaling (41), Nicole Avant (53) and Eva Longoria (46), want to open a special school. The Roybal School of Film and Television Production is to be founded as a pilot program in Los Angeles in autumn 2022, as reported by several US media.

Education and practical training in the film industry should be networked. Internships in studios and production companies are designed to prepare students for well-paying jobs in the film and television industry. Initially, the school is to open to ninth and tenth graders, and the offer is to be expanded if possible over the next few years.

George Clooney stated in a statement that the goal was “to better reflect the diversity of our country”. This has to start early, for example through teaching programs that “teach young people about cameras, editing, visual effects, sound and all the career opportunities that this industry has to offer.”
