Gérardmer 2022: an egg and disturbing children on the list

End clap for the 29th edition of the Gérardmer Fantastic Film Festival. The Jury, chaired by Julie Gayet, has unveiled its prize list: it is the strange “Egō” by Hanna Bergholm who leaves with the Grand Prix.

After a 100% online edition in 2021, the Gérardmer Fantastic Film Festival has returned to its quarters in the Vosges mountains for a 29th face-to-face edition, which was held from January 26 to 30, 2022.

Festival-goers were able to meet two exceptional guests of honour: director, screenwriter and writer Nicholas Meyer (It was tomorrow, Stark Trek II & Star Trek VI) and director, screenwriter and producer Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho).

Chaired by Julie Gayet and composed of Alexandre Aja, Mélanie Doutey, Suliane Brahim, Valérie Donzelli, Bertrand Mandico, Grégory Montel and Pascal-Alex Vincent, the Jury had to decide between ten films in competition. And their choice fell on Hanna Bergholm’s strange Egō, and its mysterious egg… The film, co-produced by Finland and Sweden, also won the Grand Est Region Youth Jury Prize.

Another feature film was awarded two prizes: The Innocents by Eskil Vogt, screenwriter of Oslo August 31 and the recent Julie (in 12 chapters), among others. Carried by a sublime poster, this Norwegian film about degenerating children’s games was acclaimed by both critics and the public.

As for the short films, a jury chaired by directors Ludovic & Zoran Boukherma (Teddy) and made up of Shirine Boutella, Saïda Jawad and Antonin Peretjatko decided on a number of fantastic proposals. It was the short film Charge Mentale that won the award.
