There are now a number of programs on TV and radio stations in Germany for Ukrainians who have fled to Germany.

Countless Ukrainians have been forced to flee their homeland since the Russian attack. Many of them have also found refuge in Germany, including with private individuals who want to help those in need. However, they often face a language barrier. In order to reduce this as much as possible, some German TV stations have started broadcasting their content in Ukrainian as well.

Anyone who knows someone who is struggling with these problems can draw their attention to the new offer that can be found in the ARD media library. The focus here is on programs for refugee children. This should enable them to “regain moments of calm and distraction”. Among others with “Shaun the Sheep”, “The Little Mole”, “Wisch & Mop” or the “Sandman”. More programs will be added gradually.

The channels RTL and ntv are now targeting adults with the “Ukraine Update”. The news program in Ukrainian will be broadcast on RTL.news, ntv.de and YouTube from March 18, Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. In the approximately ten-minute program, the Ukrainian journalist Karolina Ashion (46) will summarize the most important updates on the war. “I want to make a contribution so that people who seek protection here in Germany find out what is happening in our homeland,” says Ashion.

News and important vocabulary

The radio station WDR 5 meanwhile has an offer for German children to facilitate the exchange. Every Wednesday, the program “KiRaKa. Radio für Kinder” (7:04 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) teaches Ukrainian vocabulary that crops up in a child’s everyday life. For example, to answer the question “What do you like to do?” to be able to ask or to invite to play.

WDR also offers news in Ukrainian via its radio program Cosmo. There are under that Title “Ukrainian Germany Minute” either on the WDR website or daily at 10 p.m. on Cosmo.
