Who will start for Germany at the ESC in May? Singer Floryan secured a place for the German preliminary round on Thursday.

With “Scars”, a touching ballad about his mental scars, singer Floryan secured the last starting place for the German ESCPreliminary decision secured. The 28-year-old from Künzelsau secured the most votes on Thursday evening in the show “I want to go to the ESC! – The Decision”. He will therefore take part in the preliminary decision “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024” on February 16th. The German starter for this year’s ESC final in Malmö, Sweden will be determined there.

“That can not be true”

In his ballad, Floryan allows us to look deep into his soul. “Scars” is about personal defeats, the scars left behind and getting back up again. After juror Laura Karasek (41) announced his victory, Floryan still seemed incredulous: “My first feeling was: This can’t be true, I still can’t believe it now. It was like a film that passed me by . Pure adrenaline and happiness, I can hardly describe it!” The 28-year-old had previously prevailed against strong competition and coach Conchita Wurst (35), supported by his coach Rae Garvey (50). Next Friday Floryan will compete in the German preliminary round against the acts GALANT, Isaak (27), Leona, Bodine Monet (23), Max Mutzke (42), NinetyNine (24), Marie Reim (23) and Ryk (33). were already set.

“In the end we won!”

Floryan’s coach Rea Garvey was bursting with pride after the audience’s vote: “At first I thought that Conchita had an advantage because she has absolute ESC legend status. But in the end we won! It takes a great song, a great singer and a great performance. Floryan did it! I totally believe in him, a great talent and a real presence!” said Garvey exuberantly.

Lena’s victory was the trigger

Winner Floryan has been a die-hard ESC fan since he was a teenager. The trigger was Lena Meyer-Landrut’s (32) victory in Oslo in 2010, which he watched live on TV. Floryan left home for his master’s degree in music management at the Popakademie Mannheim. He is currently completing a practical semester in Hamburg. So far he has been musically active in a few cover bands. For the German ESC final, Floryan wants to “prepare well, practice the song well and think of a nice production.”
