German Film Prize 2022
“Dear Thomas” is the favorite

The nominations for the German Film Awards are out. Above all, the makers of the biopic “Dear Thomas” can raise hopes.
The nominations for the German Film Prize 2022 are from Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (66, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), the presidential duo of the German Film Academy, Alexandra Maria Lara (43) and Florian Gallenberger (50), as well as the film prize ambassadors Lea van Acken ( 23) and Maria Ehrich (29) in the cinema in the Berlin KulturBrauerei.
Hopes for the most renowned and most valuable award for German film can therefore be made among other things:
“Dear Thomas” is nomination winner
The biopic “Lieber Thomas” (2021) about the writer and filmmaker Thomas Brasch (1945-2001) by director Andreas Kleinert (b. 1962) emerged as the winner of the nominations. In total, the film drama could collect a whopping twelve prizesincluding “Best Feature Film”, for “Best Director”, “Best Screenplay” and Albrecht Schuch (36), Lola could win for “Best Male Leading Role”.
Hot on its heels is the German-French feature film “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” (2022), which deals with the legal dispute of an illegally imprisoned Guantanamo prisoner. The film garnered ten nominations. The Austrian-German prison and gay drama “Grosse Freiheit” (2021), set in the post-war period, still has eight chances to win. Both films are also nominated in the main categories. Meltem Kaptan (41) and Franz Rogowski (36) could win the actor awards.
“Contra”, “Spencer” and “Wonderful” are also in the running for “Best Film”.
The “Stasi comedy” by Leander Haußmann (62) could prevail in four categories and “No one is with the calves” in three.
These film awards are already fixed
Two Lola winners have already been determined: cameraman Jürgen Jürges (81) will be honored with the honorary award for outstanding services to German film. The Lola for the “most popular film” goes to the children’s film “The School of Magical Animals”, which was seen by over 1.7 million viewers in the cinema. The film has also been nominated in two other categories.
The German Film Prize will be awarded on June 24th at the Palais am Funkturm in Berlin. The first broadcasts the show from 10:55 p.m.
