“Die” wins the nominations

“Die” leads the field: These films are nominated for the German Film Prize. The honorary award goes to a Fassbinder icon.

After the Silver Bear for the best screenplay at the Berlinale, “Die” achieved its next success. The family drama with Corinna Harfouch (69) and Lars Eidinger (48) is available nine times German Film Prize 2024 nominated. This was announced by the German Film Academy. No other film this year had more nominations for Lola.

“Die” is one of six films nominated in the most important “Best Feature Film” category. Its competitors are “The Fox”, “The Theory of Everything”, “A Whole Life”, “Eleha” and “In the Blind Spot”.

Matthias Glasner (59) is also nominated for best director for “Die”. He is competing against Timm Kröger (38, “The Theory of Everything” and Ayse Polat (53, “Im dead Winkel”).

“Die” against the rest of the film world

The “Die” stars Lars Eidinger and Corinna Harfouch are also in the running for best leading actors. Among the men, Eidinger competes against Simon Morzé (28, “The Fox”) and Marc Hosemann (53, “Sophia, Death and I”). Harfouch is in the women’s competition with Hannah Herzsprung (42, “15 years”) Bayan Layla (28, “Elaha”).

The supporting cast includes two actors from “Die”: Robert Gwisdek (40) and Hans-Uwe Bauer (68). Christian Friedel (45, “15 years”) completes the category. For once, “Die” is not included in the supporting cast. Instead, Adele Neuhauser (65, “15 Years”), Marie-Lou Sellem (57, “Bones and Names”) and Barbara Philipp (58, “Talk to Her”) are in the running.

Honorary award to Fassbinder legend Hanna Schygulla

This year the honorary award goes to Hanna Schygulla (80), who shaped German cinema, especially in films by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982).

The 74th German Film Prize will be awarded on May 3, 2024 in Berlin. Here there are all nominations at a glance.
