German Tesla factory has received final approval

Tesla received final approval for the commissioning of its Gigafactory in Grünheide (in Brandenburg) on Friday. The first signs of the impending granting of the final approval were already available at the beginning of this week ( we reported ). As the Brandenburg State Chancellery announced on Friday (March 4th, 2022), the State Office for the Environment, as the responsible approval authority, issued the approval for the two Tesla factories for the production of electric cars and battery cells.
In this context, it is emphasized that only 843 days passed between the announcement by Tesla boss Elon Musk on November 12, 2019 about plans to build a Tesla factory in Germany and the approval that has now been given. Before production can start, however, a number of conditions still have to be met.
“The settlement of Tesla is the first major project in Germany that combines climate neutrality with the creation of additional industrial jobs. The Tesla settlement shows once again how attractive Brandenburg is as a business location,” explains Dietmar Woidke (SPD), Prime Minister of Brandenburg and adds : “My big thanks go to everyone involved. It was a mammoth task that was carried out in high quality and at a rapid pace.”
The Tesla factory in Grünheide (Mark) south-east of Berlin is the first Tesla automobile factory in Europe to date. Construction began in spring 2020 on a 300-acre site. According to Tesla, around 500,000 Model Y vehicles are to be built per year in the first expansion stage with over 12,000 employees.
