Surveys show that the Germans have become more adventurous as a result of the pandemic. So 2022 will be a wild vacation year.

2022 will most likely be a big travel year for Germans: According to a survey by the online travel agency Expedia, every fifth German plans to travel more often next year, and 22 percent also want to take a longer vacation than before the pandemic.

Another survey, this time from the vacation rental portal FeWo-direkt, specifically asked about families. The desire for a change of scenery is particularly great here: 85 percent of those surveyed want to travel more often in the future, and three quarters also want to travel longer than before.

More thirst for adventure

The travel destination is no longer just a sun lounger on the beach or pool: 23 percent want to immerse themselves in new cultures. Many are even more adventurous than before. 18 percent are now considering goals that would have been out of the question before the pandemic. For 78 percent of parents, it is now much more important that their children come into contact with foreign cultures again. The culinary arts are also very popular: 31 percent are particularly looking forward to trying new dishes.

For 39 percent, however, the top priority is being with loved ones – without cell phones and the Internet: “Around a quarter would like to take more trips to promote their own mental health and one in five would like to waste less time on their smartphones or tablets,” says Expedia -Speaker Svetlana Hirth. A third would like to work on living more in the moment and being more spontaneous.

Glad a little luxury

As long as it is on budget, Germans are not averse to luxury either. 18 percent want to afford luxury offers such as wellness treatments or Michelin-starred restaurants. For families, luxury looks like almost 40 percent would like a holiday apartment with a private pool.
