BERLIN, Jan.6 (Reuters) – Prices in Germany continued to rise in December, the first inflation estimate released by Destatis, the federal statistical office, showed on Thursday.

The consumer price index calculated according to European standards (HICP) increased by 0.3% compared to November and by 5.7% over one year.

Economists polled by Reuters were forecasting an average increase of 0.2% month-on-month and an increase of 5.7% year-on-year. In November, the inflation rate was 6.0% year on year. (Report Joseph Nasr; French version Claude Chendjou, edited by Sophie Louet)
