BERLIN (Reuters) – Consumer price inflation accelerated in four of Germany’s 16 states in April, preliminary data showed on Monday, suggesting that national inflation could rebound slightly this month .
In Bavaria, inflation rose from 2.3% in March to 2.5% in April. In Brandenburg it increased from 2.8% to 3%, in Saxony from 2.5% to 2.7%, and in Hesse from 1.6% to 1.9%.
Price dynamics in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, reached 2.3% in April, stable compared to the previous month, while inflation in Baden-Württemberg fell by 2. .3% to 2.1% in April.
Economists polled by Reuters forecast an inflation rate harmonized with European standards of 2.3% in April for Germany as a whole, unchanged from March. The figures will be published on Monday at 12:00 GMT.
German inflation is considered a leading indicator of price dynamics in the Eurozone. Preliminary April inflation for the bloc is due on Tuesday.
