"Germany is looking for the superstar" is starting a new round. RTL shows the first casting episode this Tuesday (January 5th) at 8:15 p.m. (also via TVNow). The corona pandemic and the exit of a jury member caused quite a stir in advance. Everything about the new "DSDS" season at a glance.

The jurors

Pop titan Dieter Bohlen (66) takes over the head of the jury like every year. In addition to him, pop singer Maite Kelly (41, "Tonight Forever"), singer Mike Singer (20, "Flashbacks"), he is the youngest juror in the "DSDS" story, and pop singer Michael Wendler (48, " No matter ") place. However, the latter will only be seen in the 13 casting episodes. Even during the "DSDS" filming, Michael Wendler announced his exit in an Instagram video at the beginning of October 2020, criticized the federal government's corona measures and accused the media of bringing into line. RTL then distanced itself from him, the jury continued with the three of them from the recall.

Castings and recall

The recording of the jury castings took place in September 2020 – on the ship "Blue Rhapsody". The steamer made stops in the cities of Rüdesheim, Bacharach, St. Goar, Boppard, Braubach, Koblenz, Andernach, Linz am Rhein, Königswinter, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Duisburg. The talents were then allowed to demonstrate their singing talents on board. Around 100 singers will take the famous recall note home with them in the upcoming programs. In Cologne they then have to face the competition in the Germany recall, 44 of them advance.

The best 44 candidates go to Bronnbach Castle, a former Cistercian abbey in Wertheim. The candidates sing in small groups in front of the now three-person jury. 27 of them make it into the international recall. Due to the corona pandemic, this will not take place in the 18th season in a tropical country, but on the Greek island of Mykonos. The film was shot there in October under strict hygiene measures.

The final

The best nine candidates from the recall on Mykonos will compete in the semi-finals live in the Turbinenhalle Duisburg. From then on, the viewers decide which candidates will make it to the final by telephone and SMS voting. The final will also take place live in the turbine hall. The viewers choose the "Superstar 2021" from the best candidates. The winner wins 100,000 euros and a contract with Universal Music.

The broadcast dates

RTL will show "DSDS" from January 5th, every Tuesday and Saturday at 8:15 pm. The second episode will therefore be shown on January 9th. A total of 22 episodes will be broadcast, consisting of 13 casting episodes, seven recall episodes, the live semi-final and the live final.
