Germany: one dead and 14 injured in train collision


One person was killed and 14 others injured in the collision between two trains on Monday near Munich (Germany).

The two trains collided at the end of the afternoon in the area of ​​Ebenhausen-Schäftlarn station, south of the Bavarian capital, the Munich police communicated on Twitter.

“There is one dead and many injured”, fourteen, said a spokesman for the Munich police.

Local media footage showed passengers descending onto the tracks after the collision, with one car partially derailed.

The cause of the accident is not known at this stage. The two commuter trains apparently collided head-on where the line was single-track, according to Bild.

A previous collision avoided last summer

According to the German daily, 95 passengers, including schoolchildren, were traveling on the two trains.

More than 200 emergency personnel were on site in the early evening, police said.

Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder said he was shocked by the “terrible news” and thanked the rescuers for their “quick response”.

According to local radio, reported by AFP, two trains had already nearly collided in the same area last August, but the drivers were able to brake in time.
