Germany: two police officers shot dead during a traffic check, two suspects arrested


Two German police officers were killed during a traffic check on Monday near Kusel (Germany). Two suspects were arrested late in the afternoon.

The two police officers, a man and a woman, were shot dead during a routine check around 4 a.m. Monday on a road near Kusel, a town not far from Kaiserslautern, Bild reported.

According to information from the German daily, the police, aged 24 and 29, sent a radio message shortly before being killed indicating that they had stopped a suspicious vehicle, carrying dead game in the trunk.

Two arrests

A few hours after the murder, a first suspect was arrested, a 38-year-old man. Quickly identified, he was the subject of a wanted notice. The man lives in Sarre, a region neighboring the scene of the murder, and was arrested not far from his home.

The second, aged 32, was arrested later, without putting up any resistance.

For the time being, the police have indicated that they do not know the motivations of the killers as well as the exact circumstances of the facts.
