(Boursier.com) — Europorte, rail freight subsidiary of getlink, joins forces with Socofer, a historical French manufacturer of railway equipment, to develop a project for the hybridization of thermal locomotive engines. After the success of the introduction of biofuels in its operations, Europorte is continuing its strategy of decarbonizing its thermal rolling stock fleet. By combining their expertise, Europorte and Socofer want to develop an unprecedented hybridization solution for diesel traction units with a view to compatibility with the national rail network. Socofer contributes its skills in the design, construction and modification of railway engines, while Europorte will share its expertise in the field of operating fleets dedicated to the transport of goods by rail. After a technical study phase, a prototype will be developed and then operated in real conditions before being scaled up on a fleet of 15 thermal traction locomotives.
